Silver Cloud III Rolls Royce. Built in1963 to US left hand drive standards. The SCIII is the last of the true RR classic designed cars. There is no other car that looks like a SCIII, so an owner is always guaranteed to have a genuine one-of-a-kind car.
If you really want a unique, Silver Cloud III, you have found it. This car is unbelievably beautiful, and wonderfully restored. It was delivered to the original owner in Pennsylvania and registered as a 1964 car. I acquired the car in 1976 while living in California and it had already been driven 66K miles. The car now has 143K miles, so it has been driven 77K miles in 41 years. The car loves the road and doesn't like sitting in the garage gathering dust. It is a road car, not something simply to look at. As an example, for fun on one of our family weekend trips, we drove the car from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
I fell in love with the car the minute I saw it, but I didn't like the original color, two tone green with green leather. So, when RR came out with a new color group in 1999 I decided to start my complete restoration project. I never realized it would take 5 years and over $50K. Starting with the mechanical(incl. breaks and steering) re-work, wood refinishing, new leather, headliner and carpet. Most importantly, a brand new paint job. I also had all the chrome reworked and added dual(front and back) a/c and a stereo. Uniquely, I still have the complete original tool kit.
As I said, I wanted the car to be truly unique, one of a kind. The colors I selected were Wilberry for the top and Magnolia for the bottom. The only problem was the paint I purchased from England was a “LEAD” base paint and it could not be used in California. Fortunately, all was not lost because the painter knew a chemist who could re-create the same colors, without lead. The only problem was he would have to use an old 1950-60's painting technique called “metal flecking”. Hurray, I remembered having this type of unusual technique used on my '57 Chev and my '66 GTO, so I couldn't have been happier. Now the paint would truly be unique and actually have a different hue depending on the amount of light reflecting off the car.
The carpet is Wilberry and all the leather is Magnolia with Wilberry trim. Having trim on the leather was not used before 1999 when RR introduced it. When completed, it was my vision come true and I hope you enjoy seeing it as much as I enjoyed creating it. I have had almost a lifetime of pleasure owning this car, but I feel it may be time to give someone else the same opportunity to truly enjoy this very special car.
