In 1955, this iconic piece of Americana rolled of the assembly line. This Buick "Super" is INCREDIBLE! It is a true, running, driving piece of museum-quality, American history. It is truly a time-machine. It is never fails to turn heads and is a joy to drive. It is in almost 100% original condition. It features it's original and legendary GM/Buick 322 CID (5.3L) OHC "Nail Head" V-8 engine that produces 255 horses. It runs smooth, accelerates flawlessly and idles perfectly. Called a "Nail Head" because of the unique nail-like appearance of it's valves, it was highly sought after by the hot-rodders of the day because it could produce incredible torque as result of this configuration. The heads and valves on this beauty have been hardened to run regular unleaded gas from any modern filling station. It has the famed "Dynaflow" automatic transmission and power brakes which were both cutting-edge technology and the epitome of luxury, 62 years ago. The Buick "Super" is a essentially the "Roadmaster" sharing the same body and platform but with different and more rare options.
This car has been the pride and joy of it's various owners and has been loving maintained with attention to detail since new. It has it's original radio, a panoramic wrap-around windshield, and is easily identified by the four "ventiports" on each side of the fenders. While the car is in amazing original condition it has received several modern upgrades since new. It has a modern aftermarket air conditioning system, clear coat over it's beautiful black paint and a large custom aluminum radiator to keep it cool while idling and driving for hours in many local parades (it will NEVER overheat). It has new tires and the wheels have been refinished and powder-coated in the original red.
The interior is in exceptional condition with the original radio in working condition. The seats are in amazing condition. Recently professionally restitched using high quality nylon to replace aging cotton thread most of the vinyl is original (a few panels were replaced to correct sun damage... but are an exact match). The massive steering wheel is near perfect with no cracks in the bakelite and the horn ring is intact with the original Buick horn center cap. The metal dash and brightwork are shiny and have been waxed to protect them and maintain their luster. The original headliner and ribs are in great condition as is the updated, but OEM look, black carpet. The massive trunk and in good condition. All door latches function perfectly and the folding rain flap at the top of each door functions perfectly. All of the glass is in great condition and all window regulators function as they should.
The body is super straight and dent-free and has no signs of repair from accidents (it appears to be accident free for more than 6 decades!). It has almost ZERO RUST! The paint shines like new and has been polished, buffed and waxed. The bright work and chrome is all original and in incredible condition. It has all been lovingly and painstakingly polished. The massive bumpers are straight and shine like new money. The front bumpers feature the iconic "bullets" that were a nod to the fighter aircraft. The tail lights are in great shape and shine brightly. Same goes for the original front turn signals. The body style and lines, while it harkens to simpler time, is anything but simple. It is a rolling work of art that stands out in a sea of "sameness." In a world of "cookie-cutter" and "connected" cars, the "Super's" connection to the post-war automotive history of this nation is unmistakable. It is a vestige to a bygone and golden era of automobiles that cherished and exalted craftsmanship. It is the manifestation of that craftsmanship and artistic style that gave birth to this classic more than 60 years ago.
The car is owned by a 79 year old carpet and flooring magnate. He was 17 when the car rolled off the assembly line. And like all teenagers who pine for the freedom of their first car, he was smitten. He has been the caretaker of this car for many years and now wishes to pass it on to the next aficionado who will love, care, maintain and cherish it as he has. His hope is that it will continue to inspire awe and turn heads for the next 6 decades.
While the car is in incredible condition it is NOT flawless. It is not a concourse by any means. It has some small chips in the paint and various other small flaws and blemishes. The transmissions shifts perfectly, but occasionally needs a bit of help getting started. The speedometer works intermittently and is need of maintenance. All this being said the car is in incredible, safe, running, driving and stopping condition. This is your opportunity to be the next owner and caretaker of this classic. Hopefully you will preserve it and pass it on to whoever is after you.
The Buick is currently registered in the state of Texas as a Classic. Texas title in hand with all the paperwork ready to transfer ownership. If you wish to be the next steward of this incredible piece of Americana, this is your car. Many more photos are available to look at.
